The Prepared Foods Team Member role at Whole Foods Market is integral to delivering an exceptional customer experience in the prepared foods department. This position involves preparing, serving, and stocking a variety of hot and cold food items including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salad, and pizza. The role requires upholding rigorous standards for food freshness, cleanliness, and safety, while maintaining a warm and efficient customer service presence. As a team member, you support daily operations that include sampling products, rotating inventory, managing displays, and assisting team leaders with organizing volume and seasonal items. The position demands flexibility as you will engage with customers, collaborate with team members, and occasionally perform other duties to ensure the success and smooth operation of the department.

Job Requirements

  • No prior retail experience required
  • Ability to sell proactively
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products in the department
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Standing and walking 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including knives and electric pallet jacks
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Exposure to approved cleaning chemicals and temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform physically demanding tasks

Job Duties

  • Cuts, prepares, and serves a variety of hot and cold foods including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, burritos, wraps, salad, and pizza
  • Samples products to customers
  • Stocks hot and cold cases and displays with prepared foods from kitchen, walk-in preparation, and refrigerators
  • Checks in-stock product dates to ensure freshness and rotates when necessary
  • Bails and consolidates recyclables
  • Assists Team Leader in organizing and displaying volume and seasonal items
  • Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required
  • Assists with periodic inventory checks
  • Arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • Provides excellent customer service and models suggestive selling techniques
  • Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
  • Maximizes sales potential through proper prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • Follows and complies with health, sanitation, and safety regulations
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • Performs opening, mid, and closing duties
  • Ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • Immediately reports safety hazards and violations
