The Food Preparation Team Member role at Whole Foods Market is an integral part of ensuring the quality, safety, and presentation of food items offered within the store. This position is responsible for all aspects related to the preparation and maintenance of the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars, ensuring that food items are prepared according to recipes and production sheets with an emphasis on consistency and quality. The role also includes responsibilities connected to stocking, sanitation, and customer service. Working in accordance with store and team Standard Operating Procedures, individuals in this role are expected to support Whole Foods Market’s core values and goals, participate in national and regional initiatives, and comply with all health and safety regulations including food safety standards.

Team Members in this position must demonstrate a strong work ethic and be prepared to contribute to a clean, organized, and safe work environment. They should arrive on time, maintain proper grooming standards, and participate in all scheduled shifts, training sessions, and meetings. Providing excellent customer service is a critical component of this role, requiring effective communication and a customer-focused approach. Team Members are also expected to perform opening, mid-day, and closing duties, monitor food levels, rotate products to maintain freshness, and promptly address safety hazards.

The wage range for the Food Preparation Team Member position is between $15.50 and $29.20 per hour, commensurate with experience. Job Requirements

  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing or walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • ability to perform bending, twisting, squatting and reaching motions
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepares food items for the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars according to production sheets
  • prepares food items according to recipe to ensure quality and consistency
  • ensures that all prepared items are labeled, dated, covered, monitored for quality and freshness, and rotated
  • monitors food levels and replenishes in a timely manner
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • follows and complies with established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment and ensures equipment maintenance
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned and ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
  • performs other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
