This job opportunity is specifically designed for individuals interested in food preparation and customer service in a dynamic retail environment. The role focuses on the preparation and maintenance of a variety of fresh food bars including cold case items, fresh pack, salad bars, and hot bars within a Whole Foods Market store. The position ensures the delivery of high-quality food products and outstanding customer experiences through careful adherence to recipes, proper food handling, sanitation, and merchandising standards. Employees in this role are essential contributors to the store’s overall operations, helping maintain food safety and health regulations while supporting the company’s core values and commitment to sustainability and community impact.

As a food preparation team member at Whole Foods Market, you will be responsible for ensuring all food items are prepared consistently according to production sheets, properly labeled, dated, covered, and rotated to maintain freshness and quality. You will also monitor stock levels, replenish food displays promptly, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of workstations, walk-ins, and freezers as per the established health and safety standards. The role demands excellent time management, teamwork, and communication skills, as you will engage actively with customers and fellow team members, modeling suggestive selling techniques and delivering courteous, friendly service at all times.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing or walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour day
  • use of hand motions including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • ability to bend, twist, squat and reach
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery

Job Duties

  • Prepares food items for the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars according to production sheets
  • prepares food items according to recipe to ensure quality and consistency
  • ensures all prepared items are labeled, dated, covered, monitored for quality and freshness, and rotated
  • monitors food levels and replenishes in a timely manner
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses customer needs, and models suggestive selling techniques
  • maximizes sales potential through proper prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising
  • follows procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary environment and properly maintains equipment
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • reports safety hazards immediately
  • performs other duties as assigned by leadership
