Job Description
Whole Foods Market is a renowned grocery store chain committed to nourishing people and the planet through exceptional quality, sustainable practices, and community engagement. As a pioneer in the natural and organic foods industry, Whole Foods Market has established itself as a leader who sets the standards of excellence and continuously revolutionizes the grocery shopping experience. The company's mission extends far beyond selling groceries; it actively improves how people eat, supports educational and environmental initiatives such as funding grants for school gardens, and increases access to fresh and healthy food in underserved communities often referred to as food deserts. Alongside these efforts, it also contributes to poverty alleviation in developing countries. Working at Whole Foods Market means joining a community of world-changers committed to making a meaningful difference both locally and globally through commitment to quality, sustainability, and social responsibility.
This particular role at Whole Foods Market Assistant Team Leader is pivotal in supporting the daily retail operations of the store. The Assistant Team Leader works closely with the Team Leader to oversee all aspects of store performance including profitability, expense management, merchandise buying, labor scheduling, regulatory compliance, and special projects. This is a dynamic leadership role that requires the individual to not only manage retail operations but also lead and develop team members by creating an environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale. This position requires ensuring that the store meets its sales, purchasing, and labor targets while adhering strictly to health and safety regulations, especially those related to food safety. The Assistant Team Leader often acts as the point person or person in charge when the Team Leader is absent, and therefore must demonstrate strong decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Team members in this role engage in creative store layout design and merchandising to attract customers and drive sales. They maintain vendor relationships, contribute to vendor processing paperwork, and analyze sales reports to make informed decisions for operational improvements. Exceptional product knowledge and ongoing awareness of new and trending products are essential to succeed in this role. The Assistant Team Leader also plays a crucial part in coaching, mentoring, motivating, and counseling team members to build a high-performance, low-turnover workforce. To succeed in this role, candidates must exhibit a growth mindset, high energy, excellent interpersonal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and operations-related applications, and advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies.
The work environment at Whole Foods Market may be physically demanding, requiring standing or walking for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in varying temperature conditions including freezers and refrigerators. The role also includes handling equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and ladders. Scheduling flexibility is a must as the position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation for this position ranges hourly from $20.05 to $35.00, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers a comprehensive Whole Benefits program to eligible full and part-time Team Members, including store discounts, paid time off, financial wellness resources, health and wellness support programs, and additional perks that support team member well-being and personal growth. Whole Foods Market is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity in the workplace and prohibits discrimination based on legally protected characteristics. This opportunity is perfect for those passionate about leadership in retail operations, customer satisfaction, and making a positive impact in their community and the world.
