The role of Prep Cook at Grand Living plays a vital part in the community’s mission to enhance residents' quality of life through exceptional culinary experiences. This position operates within a professional kitchen environment and requires a commitment to excellence in food preparation, presentation, and quality control. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the Prep Cook ensures that all food items at their station, including meats, vegetables, potatoes, bread products, and desserts, are prepared to the highest standards. The role demands proficiency in a variety of cooking techniques including sautéing and broiling, and requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, cook-to-order kitchen setting. The Prep Cook is expected to exemplify The Sterling Touch®, which means demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, courtesy, helpfulness, and timeliness in every interaction with residents, guests, and team members.

This is a full-time position with the shift scheduled from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time, and weekend availability is required. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Culinary arts or culinary apprenticeship preferred
  • One or more years of experience cooking in a fast-paced, cook-to-order kitchen preferred
  • One or more years of scratch cooking experience preferred
  • Sauté and/or broiler cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Manual dexterity to use kitchen tools
  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull without extended sitting
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform essential functions in varying temperature ranges

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Culinary arts or culinary apprenticeship preferred
  • One or more years of experience cooking in a fast-paced, cook-to-order kitchen preferred
  • Experience with scratch cooking preferred
  • Experience with sauté and/or broiler cooking preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Strong manual dexterity to use kitchen tools and equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Prepare various food items such as meats, vegetables, potatoes, bread products, and desserts to specified quality standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen station
  • Assist in the control of food quantity and quality to minimize waste
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Model The Sterling Touch® by delivering professional, friendly, courteous, and timely service
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff and communicate effectively with residents and guests
  • Support the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations and food preparation tasks
