Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior related experience preferred
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and stressful environment
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to work late nights and unpredictable hours
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Manual dexterity to cut and chop foods and perform other related tasks
  • Willingness to relocate to Columbia, SC before starting work
  • Ability to comply with health and safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics such as food safety, preferred
  • Prior related experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation and cooking procedures
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene

Job Duties

  • Prepares meal ingredients as directed by the head chef or food and beverage management staff
  • Prepares fresh produce by peeling, cutting, and portioning
  • Prepares meat by trimming, cutting, and portioning
  • Prepares simple dishes such as popcorn or salads or other prep needed for event
  • Prepares and cooks dishes monitoring consistency, presentation and taste
  • Maintains compliance with applicable health, safety, food handling and hygiene codes and standards
  • Manage kitchen inventory levels, conduct regular stock counts and place orders for food and supplies
  • Train new and existing kitchen staff on station responsibilities, standardized recipes, plating guidelines and proper equipment usage
  • Maintain all kitchen equipment in good working order, troubleshooting minor issues and coordinating professional repairs as necessary
  • Foster a positive, collaborative and high-morale work environment where teamwork and professional growth are encouraged
  • Act as the primary point of contact in the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef or Food and Beverage Management team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
