The Produce Preparer role at Whole Foods Market is an entry-level position vital to supporting the fresh produce department's operations and upholding the company’s high standards for product quality and customer satisfaction. This position involves performing all functions related to the processing, preparation, and merchandising of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Produce Preparer ensures that all produce meets Whole Foods Market’s guidelines concerning quality, preparation, and safety. Responsibilities include cutting, prepping, and displaying produce, maintaining a sampling program, keeping the department clean and organized, and providing exceptional customer service at all times. The role requires adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures and compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations. Team Members in this position are expected to work collaboratively, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a passion for natural foods and the Whole Foods Market mission. The Produce Preparer must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, and be physically capable of performing tasks that involve lifting, standing for extended periods, and using various tools and equipment.
The position offers hourly wages ranging from $15.00 to $24.40, based on experience, and is eligible for Whole Benefits — a comprehensive benefits program designed to support the health and well-being of both full-time and part-time Team Members. After successfully completing the first 90 days of employment, Team Members may be eligible for a base rate increase. Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk 6 to 8 hours per day
- Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
- Must be able to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- May require use of ladders

- No prior retail experience required
- Thorough product knowledge
- Capable of accessing information about market conditions and communicating it to customers
- Understands spoilage and supply waste and how it affects department profits
- Working knowledge and application of all merchandising expectations within the department
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions
- Ability to follow directions and procedures
- Effective time management and organization skills

Job Duties
- Cuts fruits and vegetables following all safety and sanitation rules
- Ensures product meets Whole Foods Market guidelines for quality and preparation
- Maintains the sampling program
- Cleans the department continuously and maintains sweep logs
- Arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
- Works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings
- Provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner, and models suggestive selling techniques
- Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
- Maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
- Follows and complies with established procedures including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
- Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
- Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
- Ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations
- Performs other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
