The Prep Cook role at Waltonwood is critical in delivering high-quality culinary experiences consistent with established standards and resident expectations. Reporting directly to the Culinary Supervisor or Culinary Service Director, the Prep Cook ensures that all food preparation is completed precisely following the Culinary Service Director's recipe specifications. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to sanitation and health regulations, and an ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality. Prep Cooks prepare a variety of food items such as salads, sauces and soups, utilizing different cooking methods and tools. Their tasks also include setting up stations with necessary supplies, maintaining cleanliness and safety in food service areas, and supporting inventory management. Central to the Prep Cook’s contributions is a collaborative spirit, helping co-workers and supporting community objectives by ensuring meals contribute to a memorable and positive dining experience for residents. The role demands strong communication, reliable attendance, and a customer-focused attitude. Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • At least 1-year experience as a prep cook in the hospitality industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of dining etiquette, food handling techniques and general cooking practices
  • Knowledge of proper food service sanitation techniques
  • ServSafe certification preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to use manual dexterity, visual and auditory skills
  • Ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • At least 1-year experience as a prep cook in the hospitality industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of dining etiquette, food handling techniques and general cooking practices
  • Knowledge of proper food service sanitation techniques
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in all aspects of food preparation and food presentation specifications as set by the Culinary Service Director
  • Ensure that the food service areas are sanitized daily
  • Clean and maintain station while practicing exceptional safety techniques
  • Set up stations and collect all necessary supplies to prepare menu for daily services
  • Use food preparation tools in accordance with manufacturers' instruction
  • Notify Culinary Service Director and/or Dining Room Supervisor in advance of likely shortages or access to minimize food waste
  • Assist with stocking deliveries and taking inventory
  • Review and be familiar with residents' dining restrictions
  • Make sure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately
  • Consistently use safe and hygienic food handling practices
  • Return dirty food preparation utensils to the appropriate areas
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned by Culinary Service Director
