Job Description
Refuge Acupuncture and Somatic Therapy is a queer-owned and operated liberatory somatics practice located in Burlington, Vermont. This interdisciplinary practice integrates acupuncture, herbal medicine, and somatic therapy to serve diverse communities including LGBTQIA2+, neurodiverse individuals, Bodies of Culture (BIPOC), as well as children, families, and youth. The practice is deeply committed to intersectional healing, health equity, and creating an environment where all clients and staff are treated with dignity and respect. Refuge Acupuncture fosters a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere where therapeutic healing extends beyond physical treatments to encompass emotional, social, and cultural well-being.
The role of Practice Manager at Refuge Acupuncture involves a dynamic combination of administrative leadership, client relations, and team support within this mission-driven setting. As the first and continuing point of contact for clients and patients, the Practice Manager plays a vital role in nurturing positive experiences and upholding the practice’s high standards. This position requires exceptional emotional intelligence, meticulous organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with calmness and clarity. The Practice Manager ensures smooth daily operations by addressing billing issues, including insurance providers, managing office systems, and maintaining the physical space. They also uphold policies to support a respectful and healing environment.
This part-time, in-person position entails working 20 to 25 hours per week primarily out of Refuge Acupuncture’s beautiful offices in Burlington, Vermont. Specific hours include Monday mornings onsite and a combination of remote mornings with afternoon in-person work Tuesday through Thursday. Compensation ranges from $28 to $40 per hour, based on experience. Job Requirements
- 2-3 years experience in administration at a medical or complementary medicine practice
- tech literate and willing to learn new systems
- experience with EHRs and insurance billing
- conversant in health equity and respectful use of chosen names and pronouns
- embodied understanding of intersectionality and upholding practice policies
- highly organized
- ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently with calm and kind communication
- capacity to handle multiple tasks accurately
- experience using practice management software and improving office systems
- physical ability to sit for long periods, walk briskly between rooms, complete physical cleaning tasks, and lift up to 20lbs
- access to reliable car
- reside within 15 miles of Burlington, VT office
Job Qualifications
- 2-3 years experience managing a mental health, acupuncture, medical or complementary medicine practice
- strong emotional intelligence and ability to regulate emotions
- tech-savvy with experience in electronic health records and insurance billing
- deep understanding of health equity and intersectionality
- proficiency in clear, direct, and kind communication
- ability to prioritize tasks in high-demand environments
- experience supporting a team focused on somatic trauma transformation and abolition
