The role of Store Event Coordinator at the BUFF-CHEEKTOWAGA, NY location is a part-time position offering a base pay range of $16.00 to $18.80 per hour. This position is essential in ensuring that Michaels’ events, especially children’s birthday parties and various craft workshops, run smoothly and successfully. The Store Event Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating multiple events simultaneously within the store to deliver a stress-free, engaging, and fun experience for guests of all ages. The coordinator will engage with clients ranging from young children to seniors, fostering an environment that promotes creativity and enjoyment.

Alongside event planning, this role requires delivering exceptional customer service by assisting customers in locating products, offering shopping solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. The coordinator will also participate in operational tasks such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining store standards in compliance with company policies. The role demands a customer-focused attitude with an emphasis on maintaining high safety and cleanliness standards before, during, and after events.

The ideal candidate must be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience working with children and running children’s events is preferred, as well as the ability to handle job stress effectively while maintaining positive interactions with customers and co-workers. The coordinator should be adept at problem-solving and flexible in adapting event plans based on client feedback and needs, creating backup plans when necessary. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as facilitating party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, completing administrative tasks, educating customers about company programs, and supporting shrink and safety initiatives.

Physically, this role requires standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and sometimes climbing ladders or using other equipment to access high shelves. The work environment is a public retail store with climate-controlled customer areas, some non-climate-controlled stock rooms, and occasionally outdoor work. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings, supporting the dynamic and customer-focused retail atmosphere Michaels is known for.

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events including children's birthday parties and craft classes
  • engage with clients of all ages by creating a fun and creative environment
  • demonstrate and instruct party participants in craft projects and activities such as face painting
  • facilitate party add-ons like goody bags and balloons according to company standards
  • communicate event details with clients and store team members
  • complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls and paperwork
  • adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs
  • create backup or emergency plans as needed
  • ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
  • maintain cleanliness and safety standards
  • help customers shop and locate products
  • provide fast and friendly checkout experience
  • promote Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
  • educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
  • assist with Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
  • participate in truck unload, stocking and planogram processes
  • complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • perform Store in Stock Optimization and AD set duties
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Company programs
  • interact positively and respectfully with others
  • cross trained in Custom Framing selling and production
  • participate in daily store cleanliness activities
