Job Description

Levain Bakery is a beloved New York City-based bakery founded in 1995 by competitive triathletes and passionate bakers Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald. Starting from a small shop on West 74th Street, Levain Bakery quickly became famous for their iconic 6-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, beloved by locals and visitors from around the world. The bakery has remained committed to baking everything fresh on-site daily, donating any leftovers to charity, reflecting a deep-rooted dedication to community and quality. Over the years, Levain Bakery has expanded beyond its original location, now offering bakeries across the United States and ecommerce gift boxes, delighting cookie lovers nationwide. The company builds its culture on a clear vision to give rise to lifelong memories, and a mission focused on bringing together people who care deeply about their craft and those they serve. The bakery’s values—Welcome All, Work Hard and Be Kind, Lead with Heart, Rise Up, and Savor It—capture its commitment to kindness, collaboration, and excellence.

The role of Porter at Levain Bakery is essential to the smooth operation of the bakeries. Porters are responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary environments in every part of the bakery. This behind-the-scenes role ensures compliance with the highest health code standards by keeping food preparation areas spotless and supporting daily operations in a manner that promotes safety and team success. Ideal candidates for the Porter position are highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, and take pride in cleanliness and maintenance. They must demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, and a positive attitude, thriving in a team-oriented setting. Responsibilities include cleaning all areas of the bakery, sanitizing kitchen tools and surfaces, managing waste, assisting with store setup and inventory, and communicating maintenance needs. Porters must be flexible and reliable, able to work varied shifts including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation for Porters at Levain Bakery ranges from $18 to $20.25 per hour, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance, employer-funded healthcare reimbursement accounts, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, bike-share reimbursements, 14 weeks fully paid parental leave, one week of paid time off, and a 401K plan with a 3.5% company match. Levain Bakery strives to foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where every employee feels valued and empowered to share their unique perspectives. This role offers an opportunity to be part of a company renowned for quality, community engagement, and a supportive company culture, perfect for individuals passionate about supporting a team in a dynamic bakery environment.
