The Porter position at The Row and Sanctuary Suites near San Diego State University is a vital role within the maintenance team, reporting directly to the Property Manager. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $22.00, supplemented by a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance along with a 401K plan. As a non-exempt role, the Porter participates in an on-call rotation for emergencies and plays a key part in the day-to-day cleanliness and upkeep of the property.
The Porter’s primary responsibility is ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of both the interiors and exteriors of the property. This includes assisting with grounds maintenance, handling trash removal, and performing minor facilities repairs and upkeep tasks such as replacing light bulbs and conducting drywall or painting projects. Skilled in using basic hand and power tools like hammers, saws, and drills, the Porter supports the maintenance department by preparing vacant units for new tenants and helping monitor vendors on-site. Beyond physical tasks, the role requires quick responses to emergencies and customer inquiries, ensuring residents experience a well-maintained living environment.
The position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently. A willingness to learn and perform custodial and general maintenance duties diligently is essential. Job Duties
- Assist in maintaining the grounds, building common areas, and exterior of the building
- assist in cleaning snow and debris from sidewalk
- assist in removing all trash and refuse from the building
- use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, saws and drills
- assist in painting and drywall projects when necessary
- replace light bulbs, lamps, and clean fixtures
- aid in preparing vacant unit for new tenants
- assist in performing basic maintenance functions that may be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
- assist in escorting and monitoring vendors while on-site providing a service
- respond quickly to emergency situations and customer concerns
- participate in on-call rotation for emergency call outs
- comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives related to building operations and practices safe work habits
- identify and report work orders for maintenance needs
- contribute to the overall success of the maintenance department by performing essential duties and responsibilities as assigned
