Job Description
The MetroHealth System is a comprehensive health care provider dedicated to not only medical treatment but also to improving the overall health and well-being of the communities it serves. Established in 1837, it functions as Cuyahoga County's safety-net health system, offering extensive health services through four hospitals, four emergency departments, and over 20 health centers. MetroHealth's approach to health care extends beyond traditional treatment by addressing social determinants of health such as affordable housing, environmental quality, economic opportunity, access to nutritious food, and convenient transportation. The system also provides legal assistance and other supportive services critical to community health, striving to be as effective at preventing disease as it is at treating it.
This particular role is an Environmental Services (EVS) position that plays a vital part in maintaining a clean and safe environment in MetroHealth’s facilities. Employees in this role are entrusted with cleaning and servicing assigned areas and buildings, ensuring compliance with all infection control regulations and guidelines. Through diligent work, EVS staff contribute to upholding MetroHealth’s mission, vision, values, and high customer service standards. The role requires working a 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift with rotating weekends and holidays, reflecting the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout all hours of operation. The position requires 80 biweekly hours, emphasizing the steady commitment expected.
The employee must be proficient in the operation and care of specialized cleaning equipment including but not limited to high-speed buffers, auto scrubbers, rotary scrubbers, wet/dry suction equipment, and scaffolding. This expertise ensures that facilities are maintained at the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control. Candidates must have recent experience in an Environmental Services Department to demonstrate familiarity with the operational and safety standards expected in a healthcare setting, where proper sanitation is critical for patient and staff safety. The ability to read and write English is essential for understanding instructions, maintaining records, and communicating effectively.
While a High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory, though previous housekeeping experience is advantageous. This role appeals to individuals dedicated to fostering a healthy environment in a dynamic healthcare system that is impactful beyond just medical care. The successful candidate will be part of a mission-driven organization that recognizes the critical role environmental services play in patient care and community health outcomes. Working within MetroHealth provides the opportunity to contribute to a system redefining health care through comprehensive, community-oriented support and excellent facility management.
