Job Description
The MetroHealth System is a leading healthcare provider committed to enhancing community health and well-being beyond traditional medical treatments. Established in 1837, it serves as Cuyahoga County's safety-net health system, operating four hospitals, four emergency departments, and more than 20 health centers. The system's innovative approach goes beyond treating illness to address the social determinants of health such as affordable housing, environmental quality, economic opportunity, access to healthy foods, transportation, legal assistance, and other vital services. By taking a holistic approach to care, MetroHealth aims to improve the overall quality of life for individuals and communities.
The Environmental Services role at MetroHealth Medical Center plays a crucial part in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the healthcare environment. This position is responsible for cleaning and servicing assigned areas and buildings in accordance with infection control regulations and guidelines, which ensures a safe and hygienic atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff. The role requires dedication to upholding MetroHealth's mission, vision, values, and customer service standards. It involves handling specialized cleaning equipment such as high-speed buffers, auto scrubbers, rotary scrubbers, wet/dry suction apparatus, and scaffolding, making it essential for candidates to be proficient in the operation and care of such tools.
This full-time position consists of a demanding 80-hour biweekly schedule, with shifts running from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and includes rotating weekends and holidays. The role not only demands technical skills but also the ability to work efficiently under a structured schedule, ensuring all facilities remain impeccably clean and safe at all times. Candidates with at least one year of experience in an Environmental Services Department will find this role particularly fitting, and those with prior housekeeping experience and a high school diploma or equivalent are preferred. Fluency in reading and writing English is a requirement, supporting clear communication and adherence to guidelines.
Overall, this opportunity at MetroHealth offers applicants the chance to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare system that values prevention as much as treatment, promotes community well-being, and provides a supportive and mission-driven workplace environment. It is an ideal position for conscientious individuals who take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in a healthcare setting.
