Job Description
Common Bond Bistro & Bakery is a well-established restaurant and bakery located in the Montrose area of Houston, Texas. Established in May 2014, the company has grown to 11 locations across Houston, becoming a beloved community gathering place where people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds come together to enjoy exceptional food, extraordinary pastries, and custom cakes. The establishment prides itself on fostering a warm and welcoming environment where the love of good food bridges diverse groups of people. With a strong emphasis on quality, community, and excellence in both culinary offerings and customer service, Common Bond Bistro & Bakery remains a standout name in the Houston food scene.
The company is currently hiring for a Porter position, a vital role within their operational team. This is a full-time and part-time hourly non-exempt position, offering a competitive salary ranging from $10.00 to $12.00 per hour. The Porter plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the establishment, specifically focusing on dishes, plates, and utensils. Working closely with the Chef or Supervisor, the Porter ensures that kitchen and dining areas meet the highest health and safety standards. The role requires an individual who is detail-oriented, hardworking, reliable, and committed to helping maintain a clean and safe environment for staff and customers alike.
In this role, the Porter is responsible for the efficient collection of used dishes, the proper loading and operation of washing machines, and the organized stacking and storage of cleaned items. The position also involves ensuring compliance with sanitation procedures throughout the kitchen, including floors, storage areas, and other relevant spaces such as bathrooms and office areas. The Porter is expected to monitor washing equipment to ensure optimal functionality and promptly report any technical or performance issues. Communication is key, as the Porter must inform the Chef or Supervisor proactively about any potential shortages of cleaning supplies to avoid operational disruptions.
This hands-on role requires adherence to proper storage protocols as dictated by Health Department regulations and Common Bond's internal standards. Furthermore, the Porter must maintain a professional restaurant image by upholding cleanliness, appropriate uniforms, and overall appearance standards. Because this job entails standing for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, physical stamina and endurance are important. This position offers opportunities to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, daytime, and nighttime hours, providing flexibility for different schedules.
Common Bond Bistro & Bakery also provides several employee benefits, including health insurance, employee discounts, referral programs, and paid training to support staff development. The company values teamwork and seeks candidates who demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, follow oral and written instructions, and build positive working relationships. If you are passionate about maintaining high sanitation standards and contributing to a thriving community-focused dining environment, the Porter position at Common Bond could be an excellent fit.
