The Porter role at Ugly Dumpling is a key support position essential to the smooth daily functioning of the restaurant. This position can be fulfilled on either a full-time or part-time basis, offering between 20 to 40 hours of work per week, and reports directly to the Culinary Manager. As a Porter, the individual is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and efficiency of various key areas including the kitchen, dining room, bar, restrooms, and exterior spaces. By ensuring all these areas are clean, well-stocked, and safe, the Porter contributes significantly to an optimal guest experience and supports the wider restaurant team.

This role requires the Porter to take charge of routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, emptying trash bins, and sanitizing all locations to uphold hygiene standards. The Porter is also responsible for deep-cleaning activities like scrubbing floors, cleaning vents, and organizing storage spaces, helping to maintain a pristine and inviting environment. An essential aspect of the job includes ensuring that all smallwares, utensils, and equipment are cleaned, dried, and restocked timely so that kitchen and bar operations continue without interruption.

Additionally, the Porter assists with inventory management by monitoring and replenishing supplies such as napkins, cleaning products, and paper goods, as well as unpacking and organizing deliveries. Collaboration with the management team is a part of the role, especially in reporting shortages, maintenance needs, or equipment that requires repair. Support during peak operational hours with duties like dishwashing and equipment cleaning is expected, helping to keep the dish area efficient and well-organized.

Safety and compliance are also critical components of the role; the Porter must adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations and promptly address any spills, hazards, or broken equipment to reduce risks for both guests and staff. Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in a porter janitorial or cleaning role preferred but not required
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and products
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness
  • Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Team-oriented attitude with a willingness to assist others as needed
  • Dependable punctual and flexible with scheduling including evenings and weekends

Job Duties

  • Clean and sanitize all areas of the restaurant including kitchen dining room bar restrooms and exterior spaces
  • Regularly sweep mop and empty trash bins
  • Wash dry and restock smallwares utensils and equipment
  • Perform deep-cleaning tasks such as scrubbing floors cleaning vents and organizing storage areas
  • Monitor and restock supplies including napkins cleaning products paper goods and other necessities
  • Assist in unloading and organizing deliveries ensuring items are properly labeled and stored
  • Notify management of any shortages or equipment that requires repair
  • Assist with dishwashing and equipment cleaning during peak hours
  • Maintain a clean and organized dish area
  • Support kitchen staff by ensuring clean tools plates and utensils are available at all times
  • Follow all health safety and sanitation regulations
  • Promptly address spills hazards or broken equipment
  • Report maintenance or repair needs to management immediately
  • Perform other duties as assigned
