Job Description

Parkview Retail Services is a dedicated department within the broader Parkview Health System, focused on delivering exceptional nutrition and retail experiences to patients, visitors, and staff. Parkview Health System is a reputable healthcare provider known for its patient-centered approach and commitment to quality care. The Nutrition Service department at Parkview plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring that nutritional standards and hygiene are maintained at the highest level throughout all service areas, including retail locations, patient care units, and coffee kiosks. This department not only prioritizes excellent food service delivery but also emphasizes career development and growth for its team members through structured learning opportunities and skill enhancement programs. Employees who join the Nutrition Service team become part of a workforce committed to safety, cleanliness, and high standards of service, with a collaborative and supportive work environment.

The Porter role within Parkview Retail Services is a vital position that supports the overall sanitation and operational functions of various service areas. Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Manager and Supervisor, the Porter is entrusted with maintaining impeccable cleanliness in all designated areas, ensuring that all service spaces meet safety and hygiene standards. This role demands a hands-on approach, requiring the individual to perform ware washing in strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent contamination and uphold the department’s high sanitation standards. Apart from cleaning duties, the Porter is also responsible for managing pot and pan supplies in the kitchen areas, assisting cooks as needed to ensure kitchen operations run smoothly.

In addition to sanitation and kitchen support, the Porter oversees vendor receiving activities at the dock, carefully handling the storage and maintenance of supplies within the storeroom. This responsibility is crucial for inventory management and ensuring that the department runs efficiently. Moreover, the Porter may be required to transport food to satellite locations, which adds a logistical element to the role requiring punctuality and organizational skills.

This part-time, benefit-eligible position primarily covers evening shifts, with hours ranging from 6am to 11pm, providing flexibility for candidates seeking non-traditional work hours. The role may also necessitate working across all Parkview entities, which offers variety in the work environment and opportunities to engage with different teams and settings within the health system.

Candidates interested in this position should have at least a high school diploma or GED, although relevant work experience in hospitality, customer service, or general labor can be considered as a substitute. Experience in nutritional services within a medical or hospital environment is preferred, as it provides familiarity with the specialized standards required. Physical stamina is important for this role, with the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform tasks involving frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential to ensure clear coordination with supervisors, team members, and vendors. The ideal candidate will possess excellent multitasking abilities and demonstrate independence and critical thinking in their work.

Upon hire, employees will be automatically enrolled in the Nutrition Services Career Path, a program designed to foster professional growth and skill development. Successful completion of this career path offers an attractive wage increase of an additional 3.50 dollars per hour, reflecting Parkview’s commitment to rewarding dedication and expertise. This career trajectory opportunity adds value to this position, making it an excellent choice for individuals seeking advancement within the nutrition services field.
