Job Description
RWB Thrift is a well-established thrift store that plays a vital role in the community by providing affordable, quality secondhand goods while supporting various charitable causes. Known for its commitment to sustainability and community service, RWB Thrift operates as a retail environment that carefully manages donated items ranging from furniture and electronics to clothing and household goods. Focused on maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient workplace, the company values diversity, inclusion, and the personal growth of its employees in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
The role of a Porter at RWB Thrift is crucial for the smooth operation of the backroom and production floor. As a Porter, you act as the air-traffic controller behind the scenes, anticipating the needs of the production support staff to ensure that supplies are always available and correctly placed. Your responsibilities go far beyond basic tasks; you maintain a safe working environment by prioritizing cleanliness, organization, and the overall flow of the production floor. This includes being vigilant about clearing walkways and eliminating any hazards that could affect the production team.
You will be involved in multiple key tasks throughout any given shift, including loading and unloading trailers safely and efficiently. This involves handling various donated goods such as furniture, boxes of clothing, household items, and electronics. Your role as a trailer loader/unloader requires excellent organizational skills and attention to safety protocols, ensuring merchandise is sorted and moved appropriately within designated areas.
In addition, you may operate the trash compactor, managing waste in a way that keeps the workspace clean and organized while optimizing space. You will also be responsible for supply management within the backroom, which includes receiving, organizing, and replenishing essential supplies like hangers, sensors, racks, carts, and bins. This enables the production floor team to have the necessary materials for efficient operations.
The Warehouse Porter position demands physical endurance and strength, with the ability to lift and carry heavy items safely while maintaining agility and balance in a busy environment. You will work with a team, but also need the ability to perform duties independently in a fast-paced setting. Excellent communication skills and a detail-oriented mindset are essential to effectively support the production staff and contribute to a positive and efficient working environment.
Emphasizing safety, flexibility, and teamwork, RWB Thrift encourages all employees to embrace change and growth while maintaining professional conduct and ethical standards. The company supports a diverse workforce and fosters a culture of inclusion where every employee’s contribution is valued. This position does not require exclusive use of English, but basic proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English may be necessary for job instructions and interactions.
The Porter role at RWB Thrift offers a unique opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization that values community impact as much as operational excellence. If you thrive in active, challenging environments and want to contribute to a cause larger than yourself, this role provides the perfect blend of physical activity, organizational responsibility, and teamwork within a supportive company culture.
