The Porter role at Met Council is a full-time, non-exempt position that plays a critical part in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of assigned buildings. Working 40 hours per week, the porter’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all areas within their assigned buildings are cleaned thoroughly in adherence to a provided cleaning schedule. This role requires commitment to maintaining hygienic conditions and managing trash removal in compliance with the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) rules on designated trash and recycling days. The porter is essential to supporting the broader maintenance team, assisting the Senior Superintendent, Handyman, and other porters as necessary. Duties also include coordinating with outside contractors and managing access protocols to maintain building security and operational flow. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions precisely. The porter works in a highly collaborative environment where fostering teamwork and effective communication is crucial to organizational success.
