The Cook role at TravelCenters of America is a vital part of our restaurant operations, offering a fast-paced, customer-focused environment where delivering high-quality food and outstanding service is central to our mission. As a cook, you will prepare and present a variety of meals that meet our guests’ expectations, ensuring they leave our centers satisfied and ready for their journey ahead. Your responsibilities will include preparing ingredients through tasks like washing, chopping, and sorting, as well as cooking and assembling meals according to specific guidelines and presentation standards. Working in a supportive and trusting atmosphere, you’ll maintain safe food handling and storage practices to ensure the highest quality in every dish served. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and strong communication skills to build rapport with team members and leadership. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability during nights, weekends, and holidays, supports the dynamic needs of our business and guests. Job Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical job duties including standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions including exposure to outdoor elements, fumes, noise, and cleaning chemicals
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers
  • Commitment to following safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Must be able to adhere to company policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous food service experience a plus
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and some holidays
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions

Job Duties

  • Work in a fun, trusting environment focused on great customer service
  • Perform prep cook tasks such as washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients
  • Perform grill cook tasks including setting up broiler, fryer, and grill stations according to line check sheets
  • Prepare products to guest specifications and follow plate presentation guides
  • Complete prep, freezer pull, and temperature checklist sheets
  • Practice safe food handling, storage, and waste control procedures
  • Maintain equipment per operating standards
  • Prioritize work according to restaurant and guest needs
  • Build strong communication and rapport with leaders and co-workers
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
