The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services plays an indispensable role in plasma center operations under the direction of the Plasma Center Manager and Center Physician. This role involves determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, and handling the review and communication of laboratory test results. The Medical Support Specialist ensures all interactions and procedures comply with regulatory standards of the plasma collection industry while providing exceptional care and customer service to donors. Responsibilities include conducting medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and serological assessments such as Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). Effectively managing donor reactions and emergencies according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is critical to ensuring donor safety and well-being. This position also supports employee health programs including Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccinations and manages occupational incidents with adherence to environmental, health, and safety policies.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Licensed or certified as Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of assignment
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy
- Completion of FDA approved BioLife Medical Support Specialist training
- Minimum two years clinical or hospital experience
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified as Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of assignment
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure
- Completion of FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- At least two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting
Job Duties
- Determine donor eligibility including management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE)
- Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility following SOPs and manage medical emergencies including developing Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care
- Communicate unacceptable findings to donors and seek guidance from Center Physician or Medical Affairs on medical or technical issues including donor safety and eligibility
- Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is required by occupational health or emergency room
- Follow Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) guidance on employee incidents
- Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized and support pandemic threat investigations in collaboration with EHS or Medical Affairs
