The role currently open is that of a Pizza Cook, a critical position within the culinary team. This hourly role comes with a competitive wage of $24.50 and offers a variety of benefits tailored to support employees’ well-being and job satisfaction. As a Pizza Cook, you will be responsible for preparing pizza dough, sauces, and toppings according to established recipes and quality standards, ensuring all pizzas are cooked to perfection and served in a timely manner. Your duties will include maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, properly seasoning food items, assembling and finishing pizzas with care, and communicating effectively with the expeditor to guarantee a smooth transition of orders to the front of house.

The position demands attention to detail, adherence to food safety regulations, and a commitment to high-quality food presentation. You will be expected to prepare mise en place prior to service, use advanced knife skills to produce precise cuts, and manage food inventory effectively to minimize waste. Working conditions include exposure to wet, humid, and hot environments typical of a professional kitchen, and physical activities such as standing, lifting, and reaching. Job Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, recipes, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively in English to customers, management, and employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, proportions, percentages and volume
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Must obtain and maintain a current San Diego County Food Handlers Card
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays
  • Must comply with all safety procedures and sanitation standards
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Prepares pizza dough, sauces, and toppings according to recipes and quality standards
  • Maintains work area and cooking equipment in proper and sanitary order
  • Assembles and cooks pizzas using oven, ensuring proper timing and temperature control
  • Prepares and plates pizza to order in accordance with approved recipes
  • Covers, dates, labels, and stores food items and ingredients during the scheduled shift
  • Supplies plated starches, vegetables and miscellaneous accompaniments to hotline and receives plates from hotline for finishing with sauces and garnishes
  • Properly seasons all food items
  • Communicates with expeditor to ensure smooth transition of finished plates to front of house
  • Monitors food quality, freshness and presentation before serving
  • Follows portion control and minimizes food waste
  • Responsible for complete setup of mise en place for all menu and related special items ten minutes prior to service
  • Uses advanced knife skills to produce brunois, macedoine cuts, etc.
  • Adheres to proper rotation and sanitation standards at all times
  • Properly closes and turns over work area at the end of shift assuring proper storage and minimal waste
  • Attends regularly scheduled kitchen meetings
  • Must obtain and maintain a current San Diego County Food Handlers Card
  • Other duties may be assigned
