Job Description

Birmingham Heart Clinic (BHC) in Metro Birmingham, Alabama, is a well-established cardiology practice serving the community for over 28 years. BHC is known for its comprehensive cardiac services provided by a team of 15 physicians, which includes four non-interventional cardiologists, invasive cardiologists, and two electrophysiologists (EPs). The clinic operates across five campus locations, ensuring convenient access to patients and delivering top-tier cardiovascular care. BHC has successfully navigated through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic without closing its doors or compromising patient care, highlighting its resilience and dedication to its community.

We currently have two electrophysiology (EP) cardiology openings due to a longstanding EP physician relocating to Tennessee to be with family after 15 years at the practice. These positions cater to both an experienced EP and a new graduate, offering an excellent opportunity for career growth and development. The practice is poised for expansion, with plans to increase its EP team, reflecting the growing demand for specialized cardiac care.

The EP role at BHC offers a competitive mid $400,000 salary with discretionary bonuses and a robust benefits package. Physicians are on a three-year track to partnership, with the potential to accelerate to two years. Partnership buy-in must be paid over 18 months. Benefits include a $12,000 moving expense allowance, $3,000 CME allowance plus five additional days, and comprehensive health coverage with medical and dental insurance at no cost for individuals and families. The clinic provides substantial paid time off—15 days of PTO, holidays, and an additional eight days during the Christmas period. 401(k) plans with profit-sharing are available after one year, enabling physicians to maximize their retirement contributions. The insurance package also includes $150,000 life insurance plus short-term and long-term disability coverage, along with $450,000 of professional liability insurance via ProAssurance (claims made).

The practice is equipped with 3-4 clinic rooms and offers extensive procedural facilities, including in-office procedures such as echo, vascular ultrasound, stress testing, PET scans, CT scans, event and Holter monitoring, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) testing. Physicians are supported by their own medical assistant (MA) and registered nurse (RN), along with shared device technicians and nurse practitioners, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow. With procedures conducted three days per week and clinic volumes averaging 30 patients per day over two days, this role provides an engaging and balanced clinical schedule.

The referral base is large and well-established, guaranteeing a steady patient flow and an immediate caseload. Practices utilize advanced EMR systems with NextGen in the office and Cerner in the hospital. Hospital procedures and inpatient care are managed by dedicated hospital physicians, allowing EPs to focus on procedural and outpatient care. Call schedules are manageable, with primary call coverage shared among non-interventional cardiologists on weekdays at a 1:6 ratio, and weekend call rotating among two physicians at a 1:7-8 ratio. Holiday coverage is equally distributed among the team.

This opportunity is ideal for electrophysiologists seeking to join a supportive, experienced team committed to high-quality patient care, career advancement, and work-life balance. BHC’s stability, comprehensive benefits, and progressive partnership track make it an attractive practice for EP cardiologists in the Metro Birmingham area.
