Job Description
St. Joseph Health, a prominent healthcare provider in the Brazos Valley region, has been delivering compassionate and high-quality medical services since 1936. Serving communities in Bryan, College Station, Navasota, Caldwell, and Madisonville, Texas, St. Joseph Health is renowned for its commitment to excellence and patient-centered care. The institution boasts a Level III Trauma Center, the first Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center, and the first accredited Chest Pain Center in the Brazos Valley, establishing its status as a regional healthcare leader. As an integrated healthcare system, St. Joseph Health offers a comprehensive network that includes over 100 employed providers such as primary care physicians, specialists, and advanced practice clinicians. Additionally, the network provides more than 30 ambulatory clinics equipped with primary care, express clinics, and imaging and diagnostic services to ensure a wide range of medical care for the local population.
The role of Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at St. Joseph Health is a vital position within the rehabilitation and therapeutic services team. This position is designed to support licensed physical therapists by carrying out essential components of physical therapy treatment plans. The PTA works closely with patients who are recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions that impair their mobility and quality of life. Their responsibilities include assisting patients with therapeutic exercises and physical therapy modalities as prescribed by the supervising physical therapist. This helps patients improve mobility, reduce pain, and prevent or minimize permanent physical disabilities.
A Physical Therapist Assistant at St. Joseph Health also plays a significant role in patient education and motivation. The PTA instructs patients in functional activities, such as pre-ambulation, transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living, helping them regain independence and enhance their overall physical function. They observe and assess patients during treatment sessions, collecting data on their responses and progress, which is reported to the physical therapist and occasionally to physicians for coordinated care. The PTA may also assist patients with orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices like crutches and wheelchairs, ensuring proper fit and teaching patients how to use and care for these tools.
This position may also involve performing clerical tasks and requires a professional attitude to promote a positive environment for patients, family members, hospital personnel, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The Physical Therapist Assistant is expected to work collaboratively with professionals across various departments to meet the needs of patients efficiently. The role demands dedication to patient-centered care and the ability to encourage the active participation of patients and their families in therapy goal-setting and education.
The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $24.88 to $37.00, reflecting the importance of the job and the expertise required. Employment at St. Joseph Health means joining a distinguished healthcare system committed to innovation, teamwork, and exceptional patient outcomes. Aspiring Physical Therapist Assistants who are eligible for licensure and have obtained or are prepared to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are encouraged to apply, as St. Joseph Health values the growth and professional development of its staff.
