Job Description

The hiring organization is an integral part of a sophisticated medical institution, specializing in the pharmaceutical care and management of medications within a hospital setting. This healthcare provider is dedicated to delivering superior patient services by ensuring the highest standards of pharmacy practice. Their pharmacy department operates in a highly regulated environment, focusing on inpatient and outpatient pharmacy technician roles that support comprehensive medication management for diverse patient populations including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. The institution is committed to employee well-being and safety, offering additional safety incentive pay along with attractive shift differentials for weekday night, weekend night, and weekend day shifts. This position is part-time with a 0.05 FTE on a PRN basis and requires working rotating shifts. Compensation ranges from $20.82 to $25.85 per hour, based on experience, education, and other relevant factors.

The role of Pharmacy Technician I, II, and III includes a variety of duties performed under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, involving both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. Primary tasks involve assisting in pharmacy technician training, performing audits, managing medication inventories, and coordinating medication-related issues for patients, providers, and clinical staff. Inpatient duties focus on controlled substances management, medication compounding, and maintaining automated dispensing systems, while outpatient functions include operating the pharmacy management system, filling prescriptions accurately, adjudicating insurance claims, and supporting specialty medication programs. The pharmacy technician must possess a thorough understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, drug names, dosages, and comply with federal and state pharmacy laws. The role also emphasizes patient safety, requiring active participation in safety-related policies, reporting errors, and encouraging patient engagement in their medication management. Training and quality improvement initiatives, participation in meetings, and supporting departmental systems such as Pyxis, RxRobot, and Optifill are also key components of the technician's responsibilities. This position demands a high level of physical work and the ability to work in potentially hazardous conditions with appropriate protective equipment. The pharmacy technician is a critical member of the healthcare delivery team, ensuring that medications are prepared and dispensed accurately, securely, and efficiently, ultimately contributing to the quality of patient care within the hospital.
