Job Description

The University of Oregon, located in Eugene, OR, is a prestigious public research university known for its commitment to academic excellence and diverse campus community. Within the university, the Division of Student Life plays a pivotal role in supporting the academic mission by providing comprehensive programs and services aimed at advancing student learning, success, and well-being. One of the key departments within this division is University Health Services (UHS), a nationally accredited (AAAHC) multispecialty outpatient healthcare organization. UHS is dedicated to meeting students where they are, offering both mental and physical health services to foster resiliency and empower students to thrive academically and personally. UHS is also deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and belonging by actively recruiting a diverse workforce reflective of the student body and creating a work environment that values each individual.

The position of Pharmacy Cashier at University Health Services is a classified, ongoing appointment with a full-time work schedule, primarily during the academic year. The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $18.06 to $20.98 per hour. The Pharmacy Cashier is an essential team member responsible for both customer service excellence and financial operations within the pharmacy. This role requires an individual who is detail-oriented, dependable, and friendly, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.

As a Pharmacy Cashier, the individual will greet patients, handle prescription drop-offs, verify eligibility for services, process transactions for prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) items, and manage cash accurately, including giving appropriate change. Additionally, the cashier will receive and shelve deliveries, ensure the pharmacy remains neat and orderly, audit inventory for expired products, and collaborate closely with pharmacy technicians to remove outdated items. Customer service is a critical component of this job: the cashier will professionally resolve complaints, provide information about pharmacy processes such as prescription transfers, prior authorizations, and insurance policies, and check in patients for clinical appointments. The cashier will also close out the cash register at the end of each day, ensuring all financial records are precise and up to date.

The position works primarily during the university's nine-month academic year but may extend into breaks or summer terms to support operational needs. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check and routine screenings aligned with healthcare standards. Compliance with immunization and health screening policies is mandatory. University Health Services values a supportive and inclusive workplace atmosphere, offering opportunities for professional growth while fostering teamwork and respect among staff. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a healthcare environment that prioritizes student wellness and customer care. The University of Oregon is an equal-opportunity institution dedicated to cultural diversity and encourages qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply. The university offers a robust benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, reinforcing a commitment to employee well-being and satisfaction.
