Job Description
The National Security Agency (NSA) Office of Reasonable Accommodation Services is a federally recognized establishment committed to fostering inclusive employment by providing supportive services to employees with disabilities. Located in Colorado, this agency operates under the premise of ensuring equal access and participation in the workplace for all personnel. NSA is part of the defense and intelligence community, playing a crucial role in national security while upholding federal regulations and laws such as the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
NSA's Office of Reasonable Accommodation Services is specifically seeking Personal Services Assistants (PSAs) to join their team on a term appointment basis lasting up to two years. These positions hold the potential for non-competitive conversion to permanent roles contingent on agency needs and employee performance. NSA is an equal opportunity employer that actively supports Executive Order 13548, targeting increased hiring and retention of individuals with disabilities in federal positions.
Personal Services Assistants serve an essential role in assisting employees with targeted disabilities in daily non-medical activities that are necessary for seamless workplace integration. These activities include feeding, meal preparation, toileting, assistance with clothing, mobility support, and helping employees get in and out of vehicles at work-related sites. PSAs maintain constant communication with their clients and utilize various communication and tracking tools such as phone and email systems and computer documentation platforms.
The role emphasizes the importance of providing personalized, respectful assistance to enable employees with disabilities to participate fully in their official duties without compromising safety or independence. PSA duties also extend to accompanying employees during work-related travel, both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside (OCONUS), as well as providing support at satellite offices as needed. This comprehensive support extends to telework arrangements with home-based assistance when applicable.
NSA offers a competitive salary range for this position between $35,749 and $73,142 depending on location, experience, and education. This full-time role requires a basic eight-hour workday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility. Candidates are expected to complete a two-year Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) trial period, ensuring alignment with agency needs and conduct standards.
Training will be provided tailored to the candidate’s background, and the ideal applicant will have previous experience in settings such as home health care, nursing homes, or acute care environments where assistance with activities of daily living is routinely performed. NSA values interpersonal skills including courtesy, sensitivity, and respectfulness toward individuals from diverse backgrounds. A valid driver’s license and the ability to intermittently commute to various work locations, including satellite offices, are essential requirements.
As an agency dedicated to inclusivity and compliance with federal mandates, NSA ensures Personal Services Assistants do not perform medical tasks but focus on providing reasonable accommodations that remove barriers to workplace participation. Successful applicants will undergo comprehensive background investigations and polygraph examinations as part of employment conditions. Benefits are generous and supportive of employees' wellbeing and work-life balance. Overall, this position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to protecting national security through the support of valued employees with disabilities, ensuring they receive the accommodations necessary to thrive professionally.
