Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 2500 total flight hours with at least 2000 in category
  • Minimum 1000 hours pilot-in-command (PIC) in category
  • Minimum 500 hours cross-country flight time, including at least 100 hours at night
  • Minimum 500 hours turbine time
  • Minimum 100 hours unaided night as PIC
  • Minimum 100 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category
  • Pilots must maintain weight not exceeding 250 pounds
  • Age less than seventy years
  • Comply with DOT/FAA drug and alcohol testing requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Commercial and instrument rating for category and class of aircraft
  • ATP rating in category meets this requirement
  • First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate
  • Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or military in the previous 24 months
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft and medical systems operations
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • Experience operating Air Methods’ aircraft preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct flight planning under pressure

Job Duties

  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner
  • Complete pre-flight inspections verifying aircraft airworthiness and sign off Daily Flight Log
  • Conduct thorough walk-around inspections before and after each flight
  • Exercise final authority over aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
  • Ensure familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems including backup aircraft and assist medical teams’ comfort with medical interiors
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely
  • Conduct detailed and precise flight planning often on short notice
  • Participate regularly in company meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach
