Job Description

The University of Miami is a prestigious academic institution renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, research, and healthcare. Situated in Miami, Florida, the University of Miami operates the UHealth-University of Miami Health System, the only university-based health system in South Florida. This health system stands out for delivering cutting-edge patient care backed by the groundbreaking research and medical education carried out at the Miller School of Medicine. As an academic medical center, it serves a diverse population from South Florida, Latin America, and the Caribbean with comprehensive healthcare services spanning over 100 medical specialties and subspecialties. The University of Miami embraces a tradition of excellence, which is reflected in its worldwide recognition for outstanding teaching, research, and patient care.

Within this dynamic environment, the Division of UMHC-SCCC is currently seeking two part-time, temporary per diem Patient Transporters to work specifically at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role involves the transportation of patients to and from various areas within the assigned facilities while ensuring exceptional customer service throughout the process. The Patient Transporter plays an integral role in enhancing patient satisfaction, contributing to clinical outcomes, and promoting operational efficiency. Ensuring compliance with all required policies and procedures is another key responsibility of this position.

Patient Transporters are responsible for safely and efficiently moving patients as needed throughout the medical center, helping to facilitate seamless patient care and flow. This includes transporting patients to diagnostic or treatment areas, retrieving important medical records, laboratory results, supplies, and medications, and notifying nursing staff of patient movement within the unit. The position demands attention to detail, such as ensuring the patient’s 'ticket to ride' accompanies them during transport and verifying oxygen tanks are fully charged and safe before moving patients who require them.

In addition to patient transportation duties, this role includes specimen and blood product collection and delivery to the appropriate departments, supply restocking, and cleaning and disinfecting patient care equipment to uphold infection control standards. The Patient Transporter is also required to check in and out accurately in the patient transport system and to safeguard University assets by adhering strictly to university and unit-level policies.

The University of Miami values its employees and offers competitive salaries along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, tuition remission, and additional employee benefits. The institution promotes equal opportunity employment, ensuring protection against discrimination based on federally protected categories. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, attentive to detail, and motivated to contribute to a leading academic medical center dedicated to excellence in patient care and medical education.
