Job Description
Memorial Healthcare System, located in Pembroke Pines, Florida, is a leading healthcare provider dedicated to enhancing the health, well-being, and overall quality of life of the patients and community it serves. Renowned for its commitment to compassionate care and service excellence, Memorial Healthcare System has built a reputation as a trusted name in healthcare by adhering to its core mission of delivering exceptional medical services and support. Its well-established network of hospitals and outpatient facilities offers cutting-edge medical technology combined with compassionate patient care, making it a vital healthcare institution in the region.
The role of Patient Transporter at Memorial Healthcare System is essential in providing direct support to both patients and healthcare staff. This position involves the safe and efficient transportation of patients, as well as medical equipment, throughout the hospital. This role is impactful as it helps to ensure that patients receive timely care, facilitating smooth operational workflows within various departments. Working in a hospital setting demands individuals who are not only physically capable but who also exhibit empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills. The Patient Transporter is a visible representative of the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care and serves a crucial function in maintaining patient safety and comfort.
This evening shift role requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling both patients and equipment. The position includes assisting patients with transfers from or to wheelchairs, stretchers, or vehicles, and occasionally supporting staff with lift assists and repositioning. Additionally, the transporter delivers equipment across departments and may assist in sensitive situations, including the respectful handling and transportation of deceased patients to the morgue.
The job necessitates strong accountability to maintain a safe environment, adherence to hospital policies and standards, and the ability to adapt to changing situations with quick judgment and critical thinking. While no prior experience is required, new hires must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment. This certification ensures the transporter has the necessary skills to respond to medical emergencies. The role demands stamina and physical fitness due to the high percentage of time spent standing, walking, lifting, and pushing. The working environment may expose the transporter to biological hazards, sharps, chemicals, and physical risks commonly found in a healthcare setting.
Overall, this job is a gateway to a rewarding career in healthcare support, providing the first step for those interested in patient care roles. Memorial Healthcare System offers a supportive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified candidates. The organization recognizes the contributions of military veterans and offers preferential hiring considerations to former servicemembers and military spouses.
