This full-time Patient Transporter role is a vital position within Banner Health’s Patient Transport department located at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. The position operates during the night shift from 6 PM to 6:30 AM and requires weekend and holiday rotations. The transporters serve an essential function by ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients throughout the facility, using equipment such as wheelchairs and stretchers. The role demands physical endurance as transporters frequently walk the equivalent of 10-12 miles per shift in a fast-paced clinical environment. Candidates must hold a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification compliant with American Heart Association or equivalent standards. Banner Health offers competitive compensation, including a flat $1 per hour weekend shift differential and an 18 percent night shift differential where applicable. Working as part of an energetic and customer service-focused team, the Patient Transporter contributes directly to patient safety and comfort, and helps facilitate the timely delivery of critical services. Job Requirements

  • Certification for BLS required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Six months of healthcare or customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver’s license if required by facility

Job Duties

  • Transport patients safely between departments following transfer and infection control procedures
  • Validate patient identity according to protocol
  • Assist with patient handling and use patient safety equipment
  • Distribute requested items including medications to various departments
  • Respond promptly to job calls and update status using computer systems
  • Clean and disinfect patient care equipment and reusable items
  • Perform supply restocking and clerical duties as needed
  • Operate golf cart if required for distribution services
  • Transport deceased persons to morgue if necessary
  • Provide timely and customer-focused delivery of services
