The Patient Expeditor role is a critical position within Children's Nebraska, focused on managing and coordinating the flow of patient admissions across the system. This role involves oversight of scheduled, direct, and emergency patient admissions through the Synapse Command Center, ensuring efficient patient placement and timely progression throughout the hospital. The Patient Expeditor proactively monitors capacity constraints and surge conditions to collaborate with clinical and administrative teams, maintaining optimal patient flow that maximizes hospital resources and enhances patient, family, and provider satisfaction. This position requires effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex patient flow challenges while adhering to regulatory and professional standards. The role operates on a schedule of Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional weekends and holiday rotations, and offers a full-time employment opportunity within a dynamic healthcare setting. The Patient Expeditor must be adept at coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and implementing operational improvements that elevate patient safety, quality of care, and standardization of processes across the Children’s Nebraska system.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or health care administration
  • minimum of 3 years nursing experience preferably in pediatrics
  • RN - registered nurse state licensure and/or compact state licensure upon hire
  • Basic Life Support program (BLS) - American Heart Association upon hire
  • high proficiency in teamwork, basic computer skills, oral and written communication, time management, organizational and analytical skills, and critical thinking
  • ability to work weekends and holiday rotations as required.

Job Duties

  • Lead and coordinate clinical operational activities to ensure proper patient flow adhering to placement guidelines and discharge priorities
  • coordinate scheduled, direct, and emergency patient admissions for efficient placement and capacity maximization
  • collaborate with administration, unit leadership, and ancillary service departments during high census situations
  • monitor daily operations integrating data, communication, and healthcare team collaboration to ensure care effectiveness and satisfaction
  • manage patient activity triggers and provide feedback to operational team members and leadership to prevent over-capacity
  • monitor patient length of stay, identify improvement opportunities, and partner with ancillary teams to implement interventions
  • promote effective communication and collaboration across stakeholders to achieve safe, high-quality care
  • resolve conflicts professionally and foster a positive work environment by building trust and strengthening team relationships
  • develop and implement systems and processes to improve patient safety, quality, and standardized care
  • lead improved bed planning and decision-making, minimizing bed downtime during high capacity periods
  • apply knowledge of regulatory and professional standards to direct patient placement and accommodate epidemiological and medical considerations.
