Job Description
DCH Health System is a well-established healthcare provider dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care through innovative and compassionate services. As a comprehensive health system, DCH emphasizes a patient-centered approach that integrates various aspects of healthcare to improve overall patient satisfaction and outcomes. The organization is committed to maintaining high standards in all facets of its operations, including nutritional services, to support the holistic needs of patients. With state-of-the-art technology and a robust support infrastructure, DCH ensures every patient receives tailored care that respects their dietary restrictions and preferences. Employing cutting-edge tools like the My Dining meal ordering system, DCH transforms meal service into a personalized experience that promotes patient wellness and comfort.
The Patient Dining Assistant (PDA) role at DCH is a vital position focused on enhancing the nutritional experience for patients, their guests, and family members. This role involves passing out menus, instructing patients on the My Dining meal ordering system, and verbally taking diet-specific food choices while ensuring strict adherence to all physician-prescribed diets. The PDA plays a crucial role in patient advocacy by addressing concerns independently and ensuring positive resolution within the scope of care. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under time-sensitive conditions. The PDA is responsible for entering patient food choices into the PDA’s iPad, printing meal tickets, organizing trays, delivering, scanning trays using two patient identifiers, and removing them after meals. By bridging communication between patients, nutritional services, nursing, and other departments, the PDA fosters a positive service culture that aligns with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
The role demands a high level of customer service and technical proficiency, including using Meditech software, Ascom phones, iPads, and scanners. A successful PDA must be self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and adept at problem-solving. The PDA is integral to achieving high patient satisfaction scores by consistently providing timely, professional, and efficient service. Additionally, this position involves supporting the nutritional services team with tasks such as inventory management, maintaining floor stock, and participating in quality assurance processes. Working variable shifts and adapting to the dynamic hospital environment are essential aspects of the job. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to patient well-being while developing valuable skills in healthcare service delivery and patient interaction.
