The hospital is currently seeking a full-time Patient & Family Concierge to support the Emergency Department. This position involves rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, reflecting the hospital’s hours of operation and the need for continuous, reliable front-line service. The Patient & Family Concierge plays a vital role in ensuring an exceptional experience for patients, family members, and visitors by providing a wide array of support services. This includes greeting and guiding visitors, assisting with patient transport and mobility, supporting environmental and dietary services, managing supplies and equipment logistics, and facilitating telehealth appointments. The core responsibility is to maintain a compassionate, welcoming atmosphere while helping patients and their families navigate the hospital setting efficiently and with dignity.
The role requires someone who can operate flexibly across various duties, responding to ever-changing hospital needs. From escorting patients and visitors to destinations, issuing parking validations, and managing patient belongings, to cleaning patient environments, assembling meals according to dietary requirements, and safely transporting patients and specimens, the Concierge ensures smooth operations within the Emergency Department. The position also requires working collaboratively with clinical and support staff to uphold quality of care and patient satisfaction standards.

Job Requirements
- High School diploma or active High School/GED program enrollment or one year of previous job experience in lieu of diploma
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Must have desire, drive, and compassion needed to provide exceptional patient and family experience
- Act 34 clearance

- Previous experience in healthcare or customer service is a plus but not required
Job Duties
- Greet patients and families warmly and provide assistance with directions and escorts to hospital destinations
- disseminate patient information to visitors while respecting confidentiality
- issue parking discounts, free passes, and patient scooters
- assist with parking cashier functions and validate patient parking
- clean and organize patient rooms and hospital areas following established procedures
- replenish supplies and make patient beds
- assemble and serve meals according to dietary orders and patient requirements
- maintain food safety and sanitation standards
- transport patients, specimens, and equipment safely between hospital locations
- perform inspections and disinfect transportation equipment
- record transportation data accurately
- retrieve and set up telehealth carts for appointments and perform weekly equipment testing
- order and organize unit supplies and equipment
- deliver supplies and materials to hospital units
- stock and maintain patient rooms and supply areas
- monitor inventory and expiration dates
- answer unit phones and respond to call lights under direction
- interact and assess patient needs
- round hourly to ensure areas are satisfactorily maintained
- print and distribute daily plans of care
- prompt patient mobility as appropriate
- adhere to infection control procedures
- follow mandatory reporting procedures for incidents
- practice UPMC values and experience standards during all job responsibilities
