Job Requirements
- High school diploma or active enrollment in a high school/GED program
- One year of previous job experience may substitute for diploma
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Desire and compassion to provide exceptional patient and family experience
- Previous healthcare or customer service experience preferred but not required
- Must adhere to patient confidentiality and hospital policies
- Competence in basic technology use
- Must comply with infection control procedures
- Reliable and able to perform physical tasks as needed.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Compassion and desire to provide exceptional patient and family experiences
- Basic familiarity with hospital operations is beneficial but not required
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to healthcare protocols
- Comfortable with technology for telehealth cart setup and data recording
- Knowledge of infection control and sanitation standards preferred.
Job Duties
- Greets patients and families warmly and provides verbal direction and escort assistance to visitors and patients
- Disseminates patient information appropriately while respecting confidentiality
- Serves as a reference for visiting hours, directions, package delivery, and hospital policies
- Issues courtesy parking discounts and validates patient parking
- Assists with parking cashier functions
- Cleans, removes trash, empties linen hampers, and organizes assigned areas including patient rooms and public spaces
- Replenishes supplies and makes beds following established cleaning procedures
- Inspects assigned areas and reports maintenance problems
- Assembles and serves meals according to diet orders and patient requirements
- Maintains food safety and quality and adheres to sanitation procedures
- Delivers meal trays and nourishments upon request
- Transports patients, equipment, and lab specimens safely and timely within hospital units
- Inspects and disinfects transportation equipment and records transportation data
- Retrieves and sets up telehealth carts for patient appointments and performs weekly testing
- Orders, stocks, and organizes unit supplies and equipment
- Maintains refrigerator and temperature logs and inventories medical pumps
- Answers unit phones and transfers calls appropriately
- Responds to call lights and interacts with patients assessing their needs
- Rounds hourly to ensure areas of responsibility are managed satisfactorily
- Prints and distributes daily plans of care
- Prompts patient mobility according to clinical staff guidance
- Adheres to infection control and hand hygiene procedures
- Follows mandatory reporting procedures for incidents affecting patient care
- Exhibits UPMC values and key behaviors such as AIDET and Own Your Zone
- Performs other duties as assigned.
