This role as a Pastry Chef within Disney Cruise Line offers an incredible opportunity to be part of a dedicated culinary team onboard one of the company's cruise ships. The position is shipboard-based and requires a passion for creating exceptional dessert experiences that enhance guest satisfaction. As a key player in the pastry department, the Pastry Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Pastry Chef to develop and maintain high-standard menus. This includes crafting a wide range of delectable desserts, cakes, and pastries that delight guests and align with Disney’s magical brand promises. The role involves supervising pastry preparation and ensuring the consistent quality, presentation, and safety of all offerings.

Beyond the culinary creativity, the Pastry Chef also plays a vital leadership role by guiding and training team members with an emphasis on allergy awareness and special dietary needs, ensuring that all guests and crew members' food restrictions are respected and handled with care. The responsibility extends to managing buffet station setups and overseeing compliance with Disney Cruise Line's sanitation and operational standards, in conjunction with US Public Health guidelines. Additionally, the position requires performing emergency duties as specified in the ship’s Assembly Plan and upholding maritime regulations.

Job Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • willingness to live and work on board a ship for specified durations
  • hold a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide necessary documents)
  • complete a pre-employment medical examination
  • obtain a criminal background check
  • bring approved work shoes for the position
  • willingness to work a seven-day, 70-84 hour work week with limited breaks
  • flexibility in work schedule, responsibilities, and locations
  • commitment to a drug-free environment with drug/alcohol testing compliance
  • follow all company policies and maritime regulations diligently
  • willingness to share a cabin with other crew members

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of recent experience as a Pastry Chef or Pastry Chef de Partie
  • certification as a Pastry Chef or a comparable degree in Culinary Arts
  • strong technical knowledge of food and beverage operations on a ship
  • proven history of producing high-quality products
  • fluent in spoken and written English
  • ability to work a seven-day, 70-84 hour work week with limited breaks
  • compliance with Disney Cruise Line appearance standards
  • willingness to share a cabin with other crew members
  • appreciation for diversity among guests and crew members
  • commitment to working in a busy, fast-paced, guest-focused environment

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the Executive Pastry Chef to develop, maintain, and enhance all approved menus aboard the ship
  • craft an array of desserts, cakes, and pastries that delight our guests
  • assist in the setup of buffet stations to ensure an exceptional dining experience
  • guide team members in the preparation of pastries, cakes, and creams
  • ensure adherence to opening and closing protocols for kitchens and production areas
  • lead training for pastry staff on allergy awareness and dietary considerations in line with company guidelines
  • supervise the preparation of special dietary meals and manage food allergies for guests and crew
