The role of Pastry Prep Cook at Salt + Smoke is a vital position within the restaurant’s kitchen team, focused on preparing and handling desserts that complement the BBQ fare. The Pastry Prep Cook will play a key role in ensuring that the Back of House operates smoothly by handling tasks such as prepping, cooking, cutting, portioning, and packaging desserts for both restaurant service and catering events. As the Pastry Prep Cook, you will be required to follow meticulous prep lists, label and organize ingredients efficiently, measure and prepare ingredients accurately, and maintain cleanliness and safety in the kitchen. This role demands a person who is organized, capable of multitasking, and eager to contribute to the team’s success. Additionally, the position includes assisting with incoming orders and deliveries, and occasionally supporting outside catering functions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1+ year of cooking or kitchen experience preferred
  • basic pastry knowledge
  • prior experience focusing on desserts
  • ability to be organized and capable of multi-tasking with efficiency
  • ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • ability to stand and be on feet for extended periods of time in varied climate conditions
  • ability to carry and lift up to 50 to 80 lbs frequently
  • ability to go up and down stairs
  • ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • ability to travel locally for outside catering functions as needed
  • ability to use and learn different food preparation equipment as needed

Job Duties

  • Follow the prep list created by the Chef to plan daily shift duties
  • label and stock all ingredients on the shelves in an organized manner for easy accessibility
  • measure all ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking to prepare and assist line cooks
  • prepare all cooking ingredients by washing, chopping and cutting meat and vegetables
  • prepare and assist with preparing the salads and other side dishes
  • understand and comply with proper food preparation, cooking, handling and storage
  • understand and comply with kitchen sanitation, safety and equipment usage
  • perform other job-related duties as assigned
