The Pastry Decorator position at El Rancho Supermercado plays a crucial role within the bakery department, tasked with preparing fresh baked goods daily for customers. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires a blend of creativity, technical baking skills, and exceptional customer service. Employees in this position follow established recipes to prepare and assemble a variety of delicious pastries and desserts, ensuring each product meets high-quality standards. The Pastry Decorator is also responsible for decorating cakes and pastries with artistic flair, using skills such as color mixing for icing to create visually appealing products that delight customers.

In addition to the baking and decorating aspects, this role involves maintaining a fully stocked display case, managing inventory, and ensuring all bakery products meet the company’s strict standards for cleanliness, safety, and quality. The Pastry Decorator acts as a representative of El Rancho Supermercado’s core values, providing friendly and responsive customer service, assisting with cake orders, and supporting the broader pastry team in daily operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • valid food handlers card
  • ability to lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to stand and walk continuously throughout shift
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • artistic ability for cake and pastry decoration

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • valid food handlers card
  • customer service experience
  • pastry decorating experience
  • retail experience desirable
  • bilingual in English and Spanish

Job Duties

  • Greet and interact with customers to address questions or concerns in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • assist pastry team with preparing desserts and pastries as needed
  • take cake orders, ensure the department has fresh fruits and products, and maintain a fully stocked display case
  • support team with baking various breads, cookies, and desserts, including pan dulce
  • decorate cakes and pastries for customers
  • use artistic skills to create beautiful decorated cakes and pastries and mix colors for icing
  • effectively communicate with management and baking team in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and or other employees
  • conduct inventory on a regular basis to ensure proper levels
  • maintain standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, department conditions, and food safety
  • stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • work with various professional bakery equipment, including heat sources, mixers, and blenders
  • take food orders in person and by telephone
  • all other duties as assigned
