The Pastry Cook role at Common House is pivotal in elevating the culinary offerings of the company’s various dining outlets. Working closely with the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef, the Pastry Cook will be responsible for supporting the kitchen leadership team in creating desserts and baked goods that meet the high standards of taste, quality, and presentation synonymous with Common House. This position requires a passionate culinary professional dedicated to crafting delectable pastries that delight members and guests alike. The role demands proficiency in both a la carte and banquet preparation, emphasizing consistency and innovation in executing seasonal menus and special event offerings.

As a full-time position, the Pastry Cook is expected to contribute to multiple facets of kitchen operations, including menu testing, feedback, and food safety compliance. This role plays an integral part in maintaining the seamless operation of the kitchen by coordinating with various kitchen staff such as line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers. Additionally, the Pastry Cook ensures all food products adhere to internal standards and regulatory health requirements while actively participating in culinary and operational meetings to share insights and continuously improve service quality.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements

Job Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of progressive kitchen experience
  • at least 1-2 years of baking or pastry experience
  • strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety compliance
  • experience in both a la carte and banquet preparation preferred, ideally in a club, restaurant, or hotel setting

Job Duties

  • Ensure that all food served meets Common House and Birdie's standards of taste, presentation, and timeliness
  • work closely with line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers to ensure seamless service and consistent food quality
  • support menu development by testing recipes, giving feedback, and ensuring proper execution of seasonal menus, specials, and events
  • maintain accurate prep lists, portion controls, and yield/waste management systems
  • ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and workspaces
  • oversee compliance with all local Health Department requirements and internal food safety protocols
  • assist in scheduling and overseeing regular cleaning and preventative maintenance
  • participate in weekly culinary and operations meetings, contributing updates and feedback
