The Pastry Cook role at Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken involves assisting in the preparation, production, and presentation of a variety of baked goods, pastries, and desserts. This position requires attention to detail, culinary skill, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Pastry Cooks are expected to prepare pastries and baked goods according to specific recipes or special requests, ensuring consistent quality and taste. Working varied shifts including weekends, they must be able to safely operate kitchen equipment and communicate effectively to fulfill job requirements. The role demands multi-tasking skills and the ability to maintain composure under pressure in a busy, noisy, and temperature-variable setting. Physical stamina is necessary, with responsibilities that include standing for entire shifts and moving or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Key responsibilities of the Pastry Cook include following prescribed portioning controls and par levels, maintaining food safety and quality standards, correctly reading thermometers, and communicating any food delays or issues promptly to supervisors. This role also involves monitoring inventory levels and ensuring that production aligns with restaurant minimum quantity requirements. Pastry Cooks are accountable for all items leaving their station and must strictly adhere to food allergy procedures, special order restrictions, and comprehensive safety and sanitation guidelines. Compliance with the employee handbook and all workplace policies is mandatory. Teamwork and positive interpersonal interactions are highly encouraged to maintain a cooperative and efficient kitchen environment. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the smooth operation of the bakery and restaurant. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in pastry or baking preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
- Must be able to stand and walk for the entire shift
- Ability to lift and move weights up to 50 pounds
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines

Job Duties
- Prepare, produce and present pastries, baked goods and or desserts according to prescribed recipes and or special requests
- Available to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends
- Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment, including knives
- Ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
- Ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
- Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
- Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and or lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces
- Follow all prescribed portioning controls and par levels
- Maintain food safety and quality standards
- Ability to read a thermometer correctly and efficiently
- Communicate any food delays or issues to Coordinator
- Maintain menu item counts and communicate to Management and service staff when quantities fall below restaurant specific minimum quantity
- Accurately account for all items coming out of the station
- Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders restrictions
- Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
- Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Get along well with others and be a team player
- Other duties will be assigned as needed
