The role of Pastry Chef at Sodexo Live! is a vital position based at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN. The Indiana Convention Center is located in one of America’s top convention cities, connected seamlessly to a large urban shopping mall, multiple hotels, and a variety of entertainment venues. This bustling center attracts millions of visitors annually, making it a hub for significant events and lavish gatherings. As Pastry Chef, you will lead the pastry team in crafting exquisite desserts and baked goods that meet the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation. This role involves managing daily pastry kitchen operations, overseeing production schedules, and ensuring all items adhere to stringent food safety standards. You will collaborate closely with the Culinary Leadership Team, working under the direction of the Executive Chef to help deliver consistent and innovative culinary offerings that delight event attendees and guests.

This role demands a high level of expertise in classical and modern pastry techniques, as well as an ability to adapt to evolving food trends and guest preferences, including accommodating dietary needs. As a leader, you will be responsible for training, mentoring, and developing the pastry team, fostering a professional and collaborative environment that encourages growth and excellence. The position requires strong organizational skills to manage kitchen workflow efficiently and maintain seamless culinary operations throughout various events. Working in such a demanding, fast-paced setting means being prepared for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise
  • must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight
  • must be able to maneuver in an often tightly-quartered environment
  • hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a pastry culinary leadership position within a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • ability to adapt to guest preferences, dietary needs, and emerging food trends
  • advanced knowledge of pastry techniques, food safety regulations, and commercial bakery equipment
  • strong plating and presentation skills suitable for upscale dining and event catering
  • excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification required

Job Duties

  • Lead and supervise the pastry team in the preparation and presentation of desserts and baked goods
