This dedication to quality and responsibility makes them a preferred employer for those who value a workplace that aligns with their ethical standards and a passion for exceptional food.
The position available is for a full-time Pastry Chef at Union College in Schenectady, NY. This role is crucial in maintaining the high standards Bon Appetit is known for, overseeing the creation, planning, and daily production of exquisite pastries, desserts, and baked goods. The Pastry Chef plays a key role in ensuring recipes and food quality meet the company’s rigorous standards while controlling food costs and managing kitchen inventory. Beyond culinary skills, this role requires supervisory capabilities, including managing pastry kitchen staff, coordinating schedules, conducting interviews, and facilitating training.
Candidates will work a full-time schedule with varying days and hours, including weekends, which are essential in this busy foodservice environment. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, recognizing the value of skilled professionals in the culinary arts. As part of the Compass Group, Bon Appetit also provides a robust benefits package to full-time associates, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as retirement plans, employee assistance programs, and various voluntary benefits. This support ensures that employees not only grow professionally but also have access to resources that enhance their well-being.
Working at Bon Appetit provides an opportunity to grow within a company that values diversity of thought and inclusion. Employees are encouraged to bring their unique perspectives and talents to the kitchen, contributing to a dynamic team environment passionate about making a difference locally and globally. The company emphasizes fair and equal treatment for all applicants and employees, supporting a safe and respectful workplace.
The Pastry Chef at Union College will also be instrumental in menu planning, especially around seasonal items, ensuring that the offerings are both innovative and reflective of current trends and dietary needs. This role demands meticulous attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and maintaining hygiene standards that exceed federal, state, and corporate regulations. The Pastry Chef will frequently review and adapt kitchen processes to uphold these standards, facilitating a safe work environment and exceptional guest experience.
In summary, this Pastry Chef position is ideal for professionals with culinary experience in cooking or food service who are looking for a full-time career presenting a blend of creativity, leadership, and operational management. The position offers both stability and room for career advancement within the esteemed Bon Appetit Management Company, part of the larger Compass Group family.
