The position available is a full-time Pastry Chef at Occasions Caterers located at 655 Taylor Street Northeast, Washington, DC. This role is crucial in creating and supervising the production of superior quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods that meet the high standards upheld by Restaurant Associates. The Pastry Chef will play an integral role in ensuring that all recipes and production guidelines are followed meticulously to maintain product consistency and excellence. The position offers an hourly wage ranging from $23.00 to $25.00, reflecting the importance and expertise required for this role.

As a Pastry Chef, you will oversee daily pastry production activities, ensuring food safety, quality control, and efficient kitchen operations. Your responsibilities will include managing food costs, ensuring proper presentation and portion control, and maintaining proper serving temperatures. You will also supervise and mentor hourly kitchen and pastry staff, handling scheduling, training, payroll, and performance reviews. A significant part of the role involves maintaining kitchen sanitation standards and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and corporate regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Prior pastry cooking experience required
  • Ability to work full-time schedule including varied hours and days
  • Must be able to comply with food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to wear medium weight cut gloves and use proper protective equipment
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • Supervises the daily production and distribution of all pastries, desserts and baked goods
  • Ensures recipes and standards are followed, food costs are controlled and appropriate quantity is prepared based on established production needs
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • Monitors and controls the maintenance and sanitation of the pastry kitchen and equipment to ensure a work environment that meets/exceeds federal, state and corporate standards and regulations
  • Supervises hourly kitchen/pastry associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action, as appropriate
  • Helps plan and implement seasonal menus
  • Orders and maintains pastry supplies and products to ensure appropriate inventory levels
  • Performs other duties as assigned
