Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- some work experience demonstrating responsibility and initiative
- satisfactory attendance and safe work record
- ability to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, snow, and rain
- physical agility to get on/off train equipment, move between cars, bend, reach, stoop, safely ride the side of trains, and lift equipment
- ability to report to work on short notice, including weekends and holidays
- successful completion of pre-employment medical examination and drug screening
- submission to periodic medical exams and random drug and alcohol screenings
- pass Federal Railroad Administration vision, hearing, and color vision standards
- current valid driver’s license with good safety record
- 2 years of full-time verifiable work or college experience or combination equating to 2 years
- residence within 2 hours of Crew Base
- ability to lift 50 pounds
Job Qualifications

- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- some work experience showing responsibility and leadership characteristics
- ability to interact professionally with passengers and coworkers under various circumstances
- understanding of quality customer service elements
- willingness to perform duties requiring physical agility including climbing on/off train equipment and lifting
- must have current valid driver’s license with good safety record
- willingness to work variable hours including weekends and holidays
- must live within 2 hours of Crew Base
- ability to pass pre-employment medical exam and drug screening
- familiarity with customer service roles involving cash handling preferred
- some leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- some mechanical knowledge preferred
Job Duties
- assist the Conductor in safe movement of trains by adhering to operating rules/practices
- oversee all on-train employees in service delivery adhering to service standards
- collect and verify all revenue documents including cash and credit card receipts and proof of payment
- ensure safety of passengers and crew by following safety rules
- communicate effectively with passengers, crew members, and others to ensure safe and efficient train movements and customer service
- perform duties in passenger or non-passenger operations including yard duty and work trains
- secure movement orders and ensure clear understanding by operating crew
- ensure pre-determined service requests are understood and carried out
- maintain knowledge of operating characteristics and safety rules
- physically move between and around train cars manipulating and lifting heavy air hoses and electrical cables
- assist in boarding and detraining of passengers, baggage, express shipments, and mail
- make customer service announcements and provide information about train service and passenger connections
- make special arrangements in case of service failure
- ensure each passenger has proper fare and ensure safe and orderly passenger conduct
- assist Conductor in submission of reports related to delays, occurrences, inconveniences, and mechanical defects
- comply with Amtrak's uniform and grooming standards when performing passenger service duties
