Job Description

Michaels Stores is a leading retailer in the arts and crafts industry, dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration across North America. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, including a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is known for its vast selection of crafting supplies, custom framing services through its Artistree brand, and comprehensive customer-centric shopping experience. Michaels provides an inspiring environment where customers can shop, create, and celebrate memorable events, making it the best place for all things creative.

The part-time Event Coordinator role at the Michaels store in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about event planning, customer engagement, and creativity within a retail setting. This role is centered on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events, including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes, ensuring a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests of all ages. The coordinator will serve as a key ambassador of the Michaels brand by delivering exceptional customer service, assisting shoppers in finding products, and managing smooth checkout processes. In addition to event duties, the role involves general operational tasks like unloading merchandise trucks, maintaining merchandise displays, and ensuring the store's recovery and safety standards are met.

The Event Coordinator is responsible for juggling multiple events, engaging attendees through hands-on activities such as face painting and crafting projects, and handling party add-ons like goody bags and balloons to company standards. This requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to adapt plans according to client feedback. Administrative responsibilities include communicating with clients and team members, managing emails and paperwork, and creating contingency plans to handle unexpected situations. Further, the role supports store operations by participating in stocking, planogram execution, and assisting in customer programs such as Rewards and credit card enrollments.

Success in this role demands excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure, and experience with children’s events and retail customer service. Physically, the position requires standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, and performing tasks involving bending, lifting, and carrying. Working hours may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings. Michaels emphasizes inclusivity and accommodation, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have the necessary support to perform their roles successfully.

Michaels promotes a positive work environment that values respect, teamwork, and a commitment to its vision and values. The company offers comprehensive benefits for both full-time and part-time Team Members, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels is dedicated to inclusion and diversity, providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals. This role provides a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to engage with customers, enhance the community’s creative expression, and contribute to the success of a nationally recognized leader in the crafting industry.
