Job Description

Michaels is the leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, known for its extensive range of products designed to fuel creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, along with a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its reputation as the best place for all things creative. Michaels is dedicated to fostering a joyful and engaging shopping experience by offering a wide variety of crafting supplies, seasonal décor, custom framing services, and unique project ideas to millions of customers annually. Its brand promise focuses on creativity, quality, and customer satisfaction, making it a favorite destination for hobbyists, families, teachers, and professional artists alike.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels’ store in Cary, NC revolves around planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of in-store events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This position is critical to delivering a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests of all ages, ranging from young children to senior citizens. The Event Coordinator is responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, ensuring that each is well-organized and tailored to meet client expectations. Their duties extend beyond event management to providing exceptional customer service, assisting customers in locating products, and facilitating smooth checkout processes. This makes the role integral to both customer engagement and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities include engaging with guests to create an environment rich in creativity and fun, demonstrating craft projects, performing face painting, managing party add-ons, and handling all event-related communication and administration. The role requires adaptability, as Coordinators must adjust plans based on client feedback and create contingency plans for unforeseen situations. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in the store before, during, and after events is also essential.

Beyond event-related tasks, the Event Coordinator supports core store operations such as unloading deliveries, stocking merchandise, implementing planograms, and participating in store recovery processes to ensure product availability and an attractive shopping environment. They also promote Michaels’ rewards programs and private label credit cards, encouraging customer loyalty while managing omni-channel shopping solutions like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Experience in retail, especially involving customer service and children’s event coordination, is important, as is the ability to interact positively with diverse customers and team members.

Michaels values associates who can remain enthusiastic and provide excellent service even during stressful situations. Essential interpersonal skills include strong communication—verbal, written, and nonverbal—organizational abilities, and creative problem solving. This role demands physical stamina to remain on one’s feet for prolonged periods, lift and move merchandise, use ladders or similar equipment, and participate in daily cleaning activities.

Michaels offers a supportive work environment with flexible hours that can include nights, weekends, and early mornings to accommodate the nature of retail and event scheduling. As an equal opportunity employer, Michaels is committed to inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities. The company pairs its commitment to creativity with comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and a generous employee discount, all designed to support the wellbeing of its team members and foster a rewarding career in retail and event management.
