Job Description

The Michaels Companies, Inc. is the leading destination for creating, crafting, and celebrating in North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 U.S. states and Canada, in addition to a strong online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. As a specialty retailer, Michaels offers an extensive range of products and services geared towards artistic and creative projects for people of all ages and skill levels. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing Michaels' position as a comprehensive source for crafting and framing needs.

At its core, Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by enabling customers to express their artistic passions and bring their ideas to life. The company takes pride in inclusivity, ensuring a welcoming environment for all customers and team members. Michaels invests in its employees by providing robust benefits and professional development opportunities, maintaining a positive and respectful workplace culture.

This role centers around event coordination within a Michaels store located in Commerce Township, MI. The primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate various events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes designed to provide an engaging and memorable experience for guests. The position requires a balance of creativity, customer service skills, and operational support to uphold the company’s brand promises and customer satisfaction standards.

The Event Coordinator will be tasked with managing multiple events simultaneously, catering to a broad age range of participants—from young children to seniors—by creating an environment filled with fun, imagination, and creativity. This includes instructing participants through craft projects, conducting face painting, and organizing supplementary party features like goody bags and balloons, all aligned with company standards. The role extends to administrative duties including responding to client communications through emails and phone calls, preparing necessary documentation, adjusting event plans based on feedback, and ensuring preparedness with backup or emergency plans to guarantee smooth event execution. Another critical aspect of the role is maintaining cleanliness and safety before, during, and after events to provide a pristine and safe environment conducive to creative activities.

Beyond event coordination, the role emphasizes delivering an exceptional customer experience within the store. This involves assisting customers in locating products, educating them on the benefits of the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, enrolling them as needed, and supporting omni-channel sales processes like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Operational responsibilities include participating in shipment unloading, stocking, planogram maintenance, merchandise recovery, and safety and shrink-prevention programs. The coordinator must adhere to Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards.

Interpersonal skills are paramount as the coordinator will act as a role model, maintaining a positive and respectful attitude even in challenging situations, fostering commitment to the team and customers, and supporting cross-training initiatives such as custom framing sales and production. The position requires physical stamina with abilities like standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, moving around the store, and working in varied climate-controlled and non-controlled environments, which may include evening, weekend, and early morning shifts.

Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities and fostering an environment where all team members can thrive and contribute meaningfully. Employment with Michaels includes access to comprehensive benefits including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous discounts. This role is perfect for energetic, enthusiastic individuals passionate about creativity, customer service, and event management looking to join a top-tier crafting retail company with a mission to inspire and celebrate creativity.
