Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination specializing in arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall décor, and seasonal merchandise. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the United States and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is renowned for providing creative solutions and inspiring customers of all ages to explore and express their creativity. Michaels is also the proud owner of Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening its position in the arts and crafts industry.

As a company, Michaels is committed to nurturing the joy of creativity and celebration in its communities by offering diverse products, engaging in dynamic events, and cultivating a welcoming environment for customers and employees alike. The company values inclusivity and ensures reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals with disabilities, reflecting its dedication to full inclusion. Michaels prioritizes employee well-being through comprehensive benefits packages and fosters a culture of respect, positivity, and professional growth.

This part-time role is based within a Michaels retail store, specifically focused on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events, including children's birthday parties and various craft classes or special events. The position is designed for individuals who are energized by interaction and creativity, capable of engaging guests of all ages—from young children to older adults—in a fun and exciting atmosphere. One of the core responsibilities includes creating an enjoyable and stress-free event experience by managing the logistics, preparation, and execution of activities such as craft project demonstrations, face painting, party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and overall event flow.

Beyond event coordination, this role also requires delivering exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, educating them on membership benefits like the Rewards program, and providing a fast, friendly checkout experience. The successful candidate will be involved in store operations—including truck unloading, merchandising, maintaining recovery standards, and collaborating with team members to support store safety and shrink programs. They will also participate in daily store organization activities such as stocking, planogram implementation, and cleanliness maintenance.

The job calls for excellent communication skills across various channels, including in-person engagement, written, and verbal communication. Additionally, candidates will be expected to juggle multiple events simultaneously, adjust plans according to client feedback, create contingency plans, and ensure a consistently high level of client satisfaction. A focus on maintaining company cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is crucial.

Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, and possess strong people skills with experience working in retail or customer service environments. Experience in children’s event coordination is highly preferred, along with organizational abilities and creative problem-solving skills. Physically, the role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, move throughout the store, bend, lift, carry, and reach, including handling heavy boxes and working on ladders as necessary.

In summary, this position offers a dynamic and engaging work environment where creativity meets customer service in a vibrant retail setting. It’s an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about crafting memorable experiences, supporting customers, and contributing to the overall success and welcoming atmosphere of Michaels. The company provides robust benefits for part-time team members, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, making it a rewarding place to grow a career in retail and event coordination.
