The Michaels Companies, Inc., headquartered in Irving, Texas, is the leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973, Michaels has become the go-to destination for customers seeking craft supplies, custom framing, and creative inspirations for personal and professional projects. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening its position in the craft and framing industry. At Michaels, the mission is to fuel creativity and celebration by offering a wide variety of products and providing a welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As part of its commitment to employees, Michaels offers robust benefits and fosters an inclusive culture that embraces diversity and equity.
This position is located at the Michaels store in Syracuse-Camillus, NY, and is a part-time opportunity with an hourly pay range of $16.00 to $18.80. The role focuses on event coordination within the store, particularly planning, organizing, and facilitating various events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes. The Event Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring customers have a memorable and enjoyable experience while engaging with creative activities in a friendly, stress-free atmosphere. Apart from managing events, the role entails delivering exceptional customer service, including assisting guests in shopping, providing product knowledge, and facilitating smooth and efficient transactions at checkout.
The Event Coordinator at Michaels is responsible for creating an inviting and creative environment that appeals to guests ranging from young children to seniors. Key responsibilities include demonstrating craft project techniques, performing activities like face painting, organizing party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, and managing client communications before and after events. The role requires strong organizational skills to juggle multiple events simultaneously while ensuring each event meets company standards and client expectations. Administrative duties such as responding to emails, making phone calls, and managing event paperwork are also integral to the role.
In addition to event management, the role involves supporting in-store operational needs such as merchandise stocking, unloading deliveries, maintaining store appearance, and adhering to safety and loss prevention standards. The Event Coordinator is expected to foster positive interactions with customers and team members alike, promoting a respectful atmosphere that reflects Michaels' brand values and commitment to inclusivity.
Candidates for this position should possess excellent people skills, have experience working with children and managing children's events, and bring a creative, energetic personality. Effective communication, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this fast-paced retail environment. The physical nature of the role involves standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, occasional lifting of heavy items, and performing cleaning tasks to maintain a safe and welcoming setting.
Michaels promotes work-life balance and values its team members by offering comprehensive benefits even to part-time employees, including health coverage options, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. The company emphasizes equal opportunity employment and provides accommodations to ensure all qualified applicants have the ability to fully participate in the hiring process and job performance. Overall, this position offers a dynamic opportunity to combine creativity, customer service, and event coordination within a supportive and growing retail brand.
