Job Description
Michaels is a leading specialty retailer in North America, dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. In addition to its retail operations, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Known as the go-to destination for all things creative, Michaels offers an extensive range of arts and crafts products, creative solutions, and expert guidance in a welcoming and innovative environment.
The role at the Fullerton, CA location focuses on event coordination within a Michaels store, particularly involving children’s birthday parties and various craft classes or events. This position is designed to create stress-free, fun, and engaging experiences for guests of all ages, ranging from young children to senior customers. Employees are responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events simultaneously, ensuring that each event runs smoothly and meets company standards. The role emphasizes customer engagement by delivering friendly service, assisting guests in shopping, and ensuring expedited checkout experiences. This position also supports operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise duties, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold the brand promises.
Specifically, the Event Coordinator is expected to engage clients by fostering a creative and fun atmosphere, demonstrate craft projects, conduct face painting, and manage party add-ons like goody bags and balloons. Effective communication with clients and team members is critical, along with administrative responsibilities including responding to emails, making calls, and handling paperwork. Flexibility is essential as the coordinator adapts plans based on client feedback and develops contingency plans for emergencies. Maintaining cleanliness and safety in compliance with company standards before, during, and after events is a vital component of the role.
In addition to event duties, the position involves enhancing the overall customer experience by assisting customers with product locations, educating them on company programs such as the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, and encouraging participation in customer feedback surveys. This role also supports omnichannel retail strategies including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), along with daily operational tasks such as stocking, planogram compliance, merchandise recovery, and shrink and safety programs adherence.
The physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, carrying, stretching, and climbing ladders for stocking purposes. The work environment is primarily a public retail setting with climate-controlled public areas, with some stock rooms and outdoor tasks that may vary in conditions. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the dynamic nature of retail operations.
Covering a comprehensive base pay range from $16.90 to $19.70 per hour, this position at Michaels offers competitive compensation paired with a strong benefits package. Michaels values the wellbeing of both full-time and part-time team members by offering health insurance (including medical, dental, and vision coverage), paid time off, tuition assistance, generous employee discounts, and more. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace, providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, and encouraging diversity and collaboration among teams. This role invites enthusiastic, energetic individuals who possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and who thrive in a creative, customer-focused retail environment to join their team and help customers celebrate creativity every day.
